Referee Certification FAQ
1) Do I have to recertify every year?
Yes. USSF and FIFA require that all referees recertify every year.

2) But I just got certified this year?
The certification you received is good for the calendar year listed on your badge. To work in 2010 you will need to recertify and get a badge with the year 2010 on the badge.

3) Can I work this coming fall without recertifying?
Yes, granted that you have a 2010 badge. Your 2010 badge is good through December of 2010. If you need a 2010 badge, check the GYSA Ref website for upcoming classes.

4) Do I have to recertify at Allen Creek?
No. You may register for any approved recertification course listed at www.gareferees.com.

5) How do I get a black badge (an R8 badge)?
To move up from a blue (R9) badge to a black (R8) badge, you will need to attend an Upgrade (Bridge) course. There are three of them currently listed at www.gareferees.com.

6) Why isn't there a bridge course at Allen Creek?
The State offices are scheduling the bridge courses and individual associations are not allowed to request the classes as we have in the past.

7) How do I register for one of these courses?
Go to www.gareferees.com and click in the left hand menu item "Sign up for Classes". Pick the kind of course you are interested in and click on the course title. Click on the DATE of the course for which you would like to register. Click on "Login Here" at the bottom of the page and follow the directions for signing up and paying for the course. If you have never registered with gareferees.com, the system will walk you through the registration process for both the web site and the referee course.

8) The system keeps sending me to www.gameofficials.net as if I were going to work games. What's going on?
The same login system runs both gameofficials.net and gareferee.com. Because of this, you may need to login using your 16 digit USSF registration number that was supplied to you on the wallet card you were sent shortly after you last recertified. If you can't seem to get logged in whatever you do, click on the left hand menu item titled "Login Issues". That will provide the answers to the most common problems.
